Rigelseven’s Take:
I actually like Lacey even though I have predicted her eviction the past 3 weeks. I just didn’t think she could connect with the viewers and the judges haven’t been supportive until this week. Her performance of “Landslide” was really bad as she seemed super nervous and she just sat on a stool the whole time. She took Kara’s suggestion for week 2 and performed “Kiss Me” which was a good choice as her voice fits the style of the song. The judges were still not impressed (maybe they didn’t want to admit Kara made a good suggestion). I am not familiar with Brandi Carlile but the judges liked the performance and her fanbase came through for her. I still think she’s fighting an uphill battle and will be lucky just to make the top 10 and the summer tour. It may be more difficult for her now that the themes are starting as it will be harder for her to find songs that match her unique vocal style.
Chindi’s Take:
I’m going to go out on a limb here, Lacey is going to find a way to do better than predicted. One of the interesting things about this season of Idol is there aren’t really any ‘Diva’ girls, which there are almost always one or two of. The Producers / Judges / Viewers have packed the top 12 with quirky, quixotic girls who have interesting voices and styles all their own (Lacey, Crystal, Siobhan). This has certainly meant that there was a danger of vote splitting and people falling by the wayside, and we certainly got a sign of that in the elimination of Lilly Scott. But the fact that it was Lilly who got eliminated and not Lacey, suggests that Lacey might have more audience power than we think she does.
We might just have three weird sisters out of the Top 4 on American Idol. Unfortunately, only one of them will make it to the final 2.
