It’s results show time! Who will be the first 5 acts to be named Finalists? 12 Semifinal acts got a chance to perform for America’s vote on Tuesday night. The top 4 acts, based on America’s votes, will advance to the semifinals. The judges will then select either the 5th or 6th place act for the 5th act to advance to the semifinals. Looking back at my post from Tuesday, I predicted Anna & Patryk, Michael Grimm, Taylor Matthews, AscenDance, and Prince Poppycock would advance and my own personal opinion of the acts is that Anna & Patryk, Taylor Matthews, Michael Grimm, ArcAttack, and Prince Poppycock should advance. Did America agree with my opinions or did other acts have more voter appeal than I thought they would? Let’s get this show started and find out.
After a quick recap of the show and some banter with the judges it’s time for some results.
Nick calls out ArcAttack, Dan Sperry, Future Funk, & Kristina Young. ArcAttack would seem to be the obvious advancer. The act advancing to the Finals is No One! Well, that’s different. Nice fake out to keep us on our toes. It seemed like even Nick was surprised by what the card said.
Back from commercial we get a performance from previous AGT act Recycled Percussion. They finished 3rd last season. They perform “Barracuda” by Heart with the original vocals piped in. Then they do a ”drum solo” on all the recycled materials. Very cool and good coordiantion on the percussion part at the end.
Next we get a performance by Jimmy Fallon. Jimmy does a bunch of impressions with Sharon holding a stopwatch and yelling ”change” every ten seconds or so. It works really well and ties into Jimmy hosting the Emmys this Sunday.
Nick calls out AscenDance, and Anna & Partyk. Hmmm, I like both of these acts but would have to give the edge to Anna & Patryk based on last night. Of course, with the way the previous round went, Nick’s just as likely to say both acts are in the Finals. And the act advancing to the Finals is Anna & Patryk! Good for them, they got a second chance with the wild card and they took full advantage of it.
Next we get a performance by international superstar Kylie Minogue. This is the American premiere of her new single “Get Out of My Way”. I’ve been a fan of Kylie since the late eighties when she had success in America with “I Should Be So Lucky” and “The Locomotion”. She kind of disappeared from the American scene after that but continued to have much success in Europe and Australia. She broke back into the American charts in 2001 with her international smash song “Can’t Get You Out of My Head”. The new song sounds pretty good on first listen and is in the same up-tempo pop genre as the majority of Minogue’s songs. As she always does, she puts on a great show. I approve.
Nick calls out Michael Grimm, Prince Poppycock, and Taylor Matthews. I’m inclined to say at least two will advance as if two get eliminated there will be no end of the episode drama as the last three act would automatically be in. I would have to think Taylor is the longshot here even though I liked his performance best of the three last night. And the act advancing to the Finals is All Three of Them! Michael Grimm, Prince Poppycock, and Taylor Matthews advance to the Finals! The producers are really messing with the contestants and the audience tonight. I agree though that all three were in the top 5 for Tuesday’s show.
Nick calls out the last three acts; Christina & Ali, Connor Doran, and Antonio Restivo. I’m routing for Antonio to advance. And the act eliminated first is Antonio Restivo. That’s a shocker and you could see it on Antonio’s face that he was surprised. So it’s up to the judges to decide between Christina & Ali, and Connor Doran. Sob story versus sob story. Or, for some people, inspirational story versus inspirational story. Piers votes for Christina & Ali. Howie votes for Connor Doran with his reasoning being that it’s good to have variety and not just a bunch of singing acts. Sharon votes for Christina & Ali. And the last act advancing to the Finals tonight is Christina & Ali!
So, the 5 acts who advance are: Anna & Patryk (Ballroom Dancers), Michael Grimm (Singer), Prince Poppycock (Singer/Entertainer), Taylor Matthews (Singer), and Christina & Ali (Singers).
Something I noticed when they cut to the green room at the beginning of the show is that the number of people in the room has gone down dramatically. Seven of the twelve acts in this group were solo performers and three others were only two people. Only ArcAttack and AscenDance had more than two people and they only had five and four respectively. Of the five acts who advanced, only seven performers make up the five acts. Next week’s acts have a similar make-up with nine solo acts, one duo and only Fighting Gravity and Studio One Young Beast Society having more than two. Does it mean something? I don’t know, just an observation.
Tomorrow we get the second group of twelve semifinalists:
Nathaniel Kenyon, and Fighting Gravity -QF#1; Alice Tan Ridley-QF#2; Debra Romer, Haspop, Studio One Young Beast Society, and Jeremy Vanschoonhoven-QF#3; Murray-QF#4; Jackie Evancho, and Maestro Alexander Bui-QF#5; Michael Grasso, and Michael Lipari & Ashleigh Dejon-QF#6

jeesh i really dont like that the girls went thru. even worse would have been the kite flier………….they are………just not good enough to make it to the finals, sorry. i guess maybe the sob sisters will sell a few tickets on the ‘america’s got talent’ tour they are now guarenteed to be part of by making the final 10. they are not on top with the top adult singers (numerous) or the top kid acts (jackie and anna and patrick). they just dont belong there. and with the tougher bracket next week, some people more deserving will not make it and these two did. im disgusted.
i found knew the that taylor grim and popycock wre all going thru cause it had to offset the shock value of the first 4 all not making it. i actually thought that was quite humerous both times.
i still think grimm is a faker.
And this is the point where the show gets boring to me. 4 out of the 5 moving on are singers. I expected 2 of them to advance, but 4? I’ve followed this show for 4 seasons and the same mediocre singers make it on to the finals every time. It’s sickening. Doesn’t America want something different for a change?
jeremy as long as they send jackie thru next week they can chose 4 acts that arent singers.
i want jackie to win, she wont have to take the headline show in vegas anyways. bianca ryan didnt
i think im right.what i saw last night only jackie is advancing out of the singers.
ridley might sneak in but she was handicapped by having to go out first and then watch as 7 or 8 other acts did just as well or better
